Horse Wisdom Program
Developed by the Equine Psychotherapy Institute, Horse Wisdom is a fun, interactive, 7-session program for children aged 12+, young people, and adults.

Session topics include:
1. Regulation and the calm state
Horses return to a calm state by expressing their feelings, yawning, taking an out breath, eating, relaxing their bodies,
being near friends, running and rolling. What calms us?

2. Awareness
Horses are prey animals and use their awareness to keep themselves and their herd safe.
In this session, we learn to notice what's happening in our environment, inside our bodies, in our sensations and feelings,
and our thoughts. Being aware gives us the opportunity to respond rather than react.

3. Boundaries
Boundaries are your "yes" and your "no" - what feels OK for you, and what doesn't. Horses model healthy boundaries which they
communicate with body language. We'll explore ways of setting boundaries for yourself and others,
including voice, touch and personal space.

4. Feelings
In this session, we focus on understanding our feelings and emotions. Horses have emotions just like us:
Joy, Fear, Anger and Sadness. Horses feel their emotions, express them, and let them go.

5. Healthy relationships
Horses reflect safe, healthy relationships. We'll look at how building and maintaining healthy relationships requires
trust, respect, communication, support, common interests and healthy boundaries.

6. Thinking
The way we think affects our feelings and behaviours. Horses notice our energy, body language and feelings.
In this session, you'll find ways to offer yourself self-talk and thoughts that are kind and helpful.

7. Facing life's challenges
This is your chance to reflect on the past 6 sessions and remember when you've been able to use your out breath,
use your awareness, express your "yes" and your "no", notice and manage your feelings,
offer yourself kind thoughts, and create a safe relationship.
